| Rad-Dietitian | Sep 23, 2006 11:06am | | Lunesta works for me (knocks me out for about 4-6 hours) and is not as toxic or addictive as other methods I have used in the past (benzos, ambien, ethanol). I have tried myriad herbs for insomnia, but none are potent enough unless taking mass amounts (not recommended). Sometimes I smoke elephant's head (it's a plant - not part of an elephant!), but it doesn't always make me sleepy. A good book on insomnia is The Promise of Sleep; it's over 500 pages, so even if you don't enjoy it, it will bore you to sleep. |

| peabonnet | Sep 23, 2006 3:11pm | | my problem is how LONG it takes to get to bed. theres no just getting up and going directly to my bed... that d be too easy! i remember an old boyfriend's mum saying "...the older you get the bigger the bedside table you need". no, i am not wandering off subject. now listen carefully. when you get to my age(50) the "stuff" you absolutely could not manage without during the night grows in proportion to age. therefore i find myself making as many as five trips up and down the stairs with these various items. and no, aint telling. wait til you get old too! btw i wonderjust what people do have next to their beds? in my case (on my HUGE table) a coupla or three books. cuppa tea, glass of water, 2 pairs glasses, tobacco n lighter, ashtray, moisturiser, tablets, gargle, toenail cutters..... need i go on? |

| ZtL | Oct 9, 2006 1:52am | | I have a clock and sometimes glasses on a nearby chair, thats it. I've never in my life had a table near my bed. If I make it through the first 4 or so hours of attempted sleep i will be out cold for 10 hours or until my alarm goes off. I'm so wrestless for those first few hours that getting up for water or something is not really any different than laying in bed, and is actually sometimes an enjoyable walk. I don't then bother having anything near me. |
